Wyoming Wrap-up

Notes from the remainder of Wyoming:

  • The 126 mile ride to Wheatland! This marked the longest ride of the summer and showed just how far we had come in terms of endurance (keep in mind my training rides generally didn’t exceed 35 miles… a slight difference!). This day’s was made all the more bearable by Mike Keough’s hilarious, but perhaps not family friendly, tradition whenever we hit a bump. You know how it’s hard to continue working out when you start laughing? Same goes for cycling.

  • I made the connection that the Laramie County we were staying in was the same from the tragic Matthew Shepard murder from 1998. I thought this was an interesting tie-in to a case I remember hearing a lot of national coverage about.

  • Cops in Wheatland love pulling over Push America vehicles!

  • When “sweeping” en route to Cheyenne, my pace line pulled off on the side of the road to attend to a teammate’s flat tire. When that was done, I realized my shoe had submerged in wet asphalt… interesting cleanup!

  • We had two fantastic back-to-back meals catered by the Cattlewomen's Association (who we love), including one held in an auction barn at the historic Wyoming Hereford Ranch. The ranch was once the home of one of the most prized cattle of all time, a verrrry big boy named Lerch, whose sperm was worth an excess of 1.5 million dollars over the years.Woah.“Baby Lerch” (pictured) is a young addition who currently lives on the ranch, in an effort to see if Lerch’s genetics will hold up many years after his passing. So far, so good!
  • At our final Wyoming Friendship Visit, we met a duo of clients who truly brought the party. They had a huge zest for life and drew a sizable crowd for their series of dance offs – see pic. There is no doubt they would make an excellent addition at our morning “circle up” tradition of dancing for lost items.
